Yes, I’m an author and surely I should only talk about books? NO! Not on this one. I’m here to talk to you about this epic show. Did I think I would like this? Yes. Did I think I would love this, obsess, and lose sleep thinking about these characters? Absolutely not. I watched it as a pure guilty pleasure, but I had not signed up for how much this story would hook me. The forbidden romance was obviously the pull. When two captains on rival hockey teams start this affair, I was on board for that kind of drama. But I had no idea how much of a journey it would take me on. Watching the slow development of two young men discovering their sexuality and their profound feelings for each other will stay with me forever. What Jacob Tierney did with this source material is unheard of. The book doesn’t even come above three stars for me. It’s high smut, which isn’t a problem, but it’s Tierney who makes the characters so incredibly loveable. And with reflection, the conversation is minimal in this series. It’s all experienced through action and cinematic setups. The connection between Isla Rosanov and Shane Hollander will forever be one of my favourite love stories.
Anyway, I just had to say that. I NEED to talk about the bar scene, and the ‘I’m coming tot he cottage’ scene, and the Cottage Episode! I’ve yet to find anyone outside the realm of Booktok to talk to about it. I’m afraid whoever I find to talk to about it face-to-face is going to be bombarded with over-enthusiastic conversation. And if it’s you. I apologise in advance.
