Quicksilver - Callie Hart Event

I had the pleasure of going to the Callie Hart - Quicksilver event in Nottingham. The planets couldn’t have aligned better after reading the book, only last month. The event was held in St.Mary’s Church, and I got a merch bundle, including a signed hardback of Quicksilver, a Shadow Daddy Tote, and a exclusive early sampler of Brimstone (Book Two). The venue was beautiful, while Callie sat at the front talking about her writing process, about her characters, and beamed with excitement when talking about the Netflix movie in early development. But it was how she spoke about the success of the book. It is described as an ‘overnight success’, but she explained how that was simply untrue. She has been writing for years, with over fifty books that didn’t get the same reception. Quicksilver was even rejected by publishers, having been ‘too long’, making it a tough sell.

I love a success story, but I love these stories most. One that details a long, drawn-out struggle, but they kept going. One where they were told no, but still made it. One where they are just as in love with their characters as the people who read them.

Anyway––I love my Shadow Daddy tote, and it will be my new work bag, while not another soul I work with has the faintest clue what a Shadow Daddy is.
